Competition Schedule – 2015
I am so excited to be in my 3rd season of competitions! I started competing in the bikini division in the fall of 2013. I am happy to share with you all that I will be making my debut in the figure division this month on May 23rd. For those who are not sure what this means, in bodybuilding competitions there are five divisions for women: Bikini, Figure, Fitness, Physique and Body Building. Please see below for an explanation of each.
The bikini division is the newest category included in the NPC and IFBB. In this category, women are lean, but don’t exhibit the same muscle definition of the bodybuilders, physique, fitness and figure competitors. Competitors are judged in a two-piece swimsuit and high heels. Judges compare the competitors based on balance, poise and physical appearance. Each competitor is judged from the front and back, but not from the sides.
The figure division focuses on an athletic appearance. These women have visible separation and definition of muscles. Women compete in a two-piece swimsuit comparison round with heels In the fitness competition, the judges look at each woman’s shape from different angles, front, back and each side.
The fitness division is judged similarly to figure division except there is also a round set to music where each competitor can show off her personality and physical fitness, including strength, flexibility and any gymnastics training.
The physique division is similar to fitness and bodybuilding division as competitors have mandatory poses and also have a round where each woman performs her posing routine set to music except they do not wear heels. These woman typically have more muscle mass, definition and striations than figure or fitness competitors and less muscle mass than women in the bodybuilding division.
Female bodybuilders have the most muscle mass and definition when compared to the other divisions. In a bodybuilding competition, women have a comparison round where they go on-stage in groups to perform mandatory poses that show off their muscle definition and balance. There is also a round where each woman performs a posing routine set to music. In this round each competitor can show off her physique and personality.
